Brown Sweeps Rhody in Doubleheader

How It Happened

Game 1 - Brown 5, Rhode Island 1
Rhode Island left 12 runners on base and was 0-for-4 with the bases loaded in the opening game.

URI starter Brooke Gerry (0-6) did not allow a hit for the first 3.1 innings. However, Brown (8-13) got an RBI single from Macy Borowski and a run-scoring triple by Cameron Zytkewicz Ray for the first two runs of the game.

The Rams got an RBI single from Hannah Hernandez to cut the deficit in half. However, Brown got a two-run double from Lily Burns and an RBI double from Jasmine Hsiao to extend the lead to 5-1.

Borowski (5-5) took care of the rest, pitching a complete game to earn the win for the Bears.

Game 2 Starters
Rhode Island

Game 2 - Brown 16, Rhode Island 5 (5 inn.)
Brown drilled five home runs as it powered past the Rams in the first game. The Bears built an 8-0 lead through the top of the fourth inning.

Rhody managed to score five runs in the bottom of the fourth despite getting just one hit. Six walks - including three with the bases loaded - plus an RBI single by Sydney Orndorff helped the Rams trim the deficit to three runs.

The momentum was short lived. The Bears responded with eight runs in the top of the fifth as Cameron Zytkewicz Ray and Alyssa Villarde both hit three-run home runs in a span of four batters. That put the eight-run mercy rule in play, ending the game after Rhody went scoreless in the bottom of the inning.
