Rams Welcome New Haven For Doubleheader

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island wraps up an 11-game homestand with a doubleheader against New Haven Tuesday afternoon. It will be the first time the teams are playing each other since 1994. It also is the first of back-to-back midweek doubleheaders for the Rams this week. URI travels to Sacred Heart Wednesday for two games. All four games over the next two days will be streamed on ESPN+ (links below).

RHODE ISLAND VS. NEW HAVEN - SERIES NOTES 

  • Rhode Island leads the all-time series, 10-3.
  • The teams have not played each other since 1994.
  • New Haven is visiting Kingston for the first time since 1985.
  • Rhode Island is 9-0 all time at home against the Chargers.
  • New Haven is a member of the Northeast Conference and is in its first seasons transitioning to NCAA Division I.
  • The Chargers will become eligible for NCAA Division I postseason play for the first time in the 2028-29 season. 
  • Opponents have outscored New Haven 230-87 this season.
  • New Haven has been shutout 10 times in 33 games.

  • On Wednesday, the Rams will head to Sacred Heart for a doubleheader.

  • It will be the first meeting between URI and the Pioneers in a decade.
  • Rhode Island defeated Sacred Heart 3-0 at the Liberty Softball Classic in 2016.
  • The only other time Rhode Island has played at Sacred Heart was a doubleheader in 2002.
  • The Rams swept those two games by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
  • Sacred Heart competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. 

GERRY PROVIDING SOLID WORK IN THE CIRCLE 

  • Sophomore Brooke Gerry has lowered her earned-run average from 4.13 to 3.76 over her last seven outings.
  • In those last seven appearances, Gerry is 2-2 with 12 earned runs allowed over 28.1 innings of work.
  • She also has 30 strikeouts and 16 walks allowed in that span.
  • As a freshman, Gerry was 1-6 with a 5.97 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 65.2 innings of work.
  • This season, she already has thrown 65.2 innings, but she has lowered her ERA to 3.62 while going 2-9 and striking out 65 batters.
  • After giving up 96 hits in 65.2 innings last season, she has allowed 74 in 65.2 innings this season.
  • She had a career-high 10 strikeouts in a complete-game victory over UMass Lowell on April 7.
  • Gerry has recorded four complete games in 10 starts this season.
  • As a freshman she had three complete games in six starts.

FAIRBANKS MAKES HER PRESENCE FELT

  • After missing eight games while dealing with an injury, freshman Brooke Fairbanks returned to the lineup, starting two of the three games against Loyola Chicago.
  • In the series finale against the Ramblers, Fairbanks had two of Rhode Island's three hits, including the first home run of her career.
  • The East Greenwich, R.I. native leads the team with a .422 batting average.
  • In 19 games played, she has 19 hits and five walks for a strong .471 on-base percentage.
