How it Happened
The Rams used a dominant second quarter to pick up a conference road win at George Mason Saturday.

Rhode Island controlled the opening period, using efficient offense to build an early lead. Celie Shield opened the scoring off a feed from Caitlin Dellecave, and Danielle McHugh followed with a free-position finish. Kate Cumins, Nicolette Licare and Dellecave each added goals during the run, as the Rams dictated tempo with a 5-3 score after the first 15 minutes of play.

Rhode Island extended its advantage in the second, capitalizing on a fast start and strong man-up execution, scoring five unanswered goals in the quarter. Caralie Basuel scored just 20 seconds in on an extra-player opportunity, and Shield followed shortly after to stretch the lead. Licare and Cumins each converted during the quarter, while Basuel added her second late to send Rhody up 10-3 going into halftime.

Out of the break, George Mason recorded the lone goal of the third quarter, with Kate Anders scoring at the 3:29 mark in an otherwise scoreless frame as both sides traded possessions without another score.

The Rhody lead got up to eight in the fourth after Cumins netted her third goal of the day (12-4). The Patriots answered with a goal of their own but it wasn't enough as Rhode Island held on and took home the win.
