How It Happened
Rhode Island (17-26, 6-15 Atlantic 10) was officially eliminated from postseason contention after falling to George Washington 9-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Revolutionaries (21-19, 10-11 A-10) got a big day from CeCe Smith both in the circle and at the plate. Smith (9-8) picked up her second win in as many days, allowing just one unearned run over 4.1 innings of work.
While she was putting the clamps on the Rhody offense, Smith had a big day at the plate herself. She was 4-for-4 with two doubles, five runs batted in and one run scored. She had a two-run single in the first inning, a run-scoring double in the fourth and a two-run double in the fifth inning.
The Rams managed just one run. In the top of the fifth,
Rayah Snyder led off with a single and stolen second base. The throw to second got away, allowing Snyder to reach third. A sacrifice fly by
Casey Miller brought Snyder in.
