Nika Jacobs' goal in the 74th minute propelled Rhode Island to a 1-0 season-opening win over Maine on Wednesday night at the URI Soccer Complex.
With the game scoreless heading into the final 15 minutes,
Claire O'Neill sent a Rhode Island corner kick from the left side toward the far post.
Courtney Poon sent the ball to to Jacobs, whose right-footed shot from 6 yards out found the net and proved to be the difference.
