KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Football opened the 2026 season ranked No. 8 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, it was announced Monday.

The Rams finished the 2025 campaign ranked No. 10 in the final coaches poll after posting an 11-3 record, including a perfect 8-0 mark against CAA Football competition. Rhode Island advanced to the Second Round of the 2025 FCS Championship, defeating Central Connecticut in the opening round before falling at UC Davis.

Rhode Island was one of two CAA Football programs ranked in the preseason top 25, joining No. 23 Monmouth. Fellow conference members New Hampshire and Stony Brook also received votes.

Rhody officially opens the 2026 season on the road at Merrimack on Friday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
