How it Happened

Rhody opened their 2026 season with a 3-2 defeat to the Stonehill Skyhawks Thursday night.

Stonehill came flying out of the gate when Chris Hines took a pass in transition and buried a shot past Rams goalie William Synnestvedt, 26 seconds into the match. Just over 12 minutes later, Theo Harris buried a failed Skyhawks clearance into the lower left corner to knot things up at one.

Rhody had plenty of high scoring opportunities in the first half. Luca Mueller was just inches away from giving the Rams the lead when he rang the cross bar with a shot from well outside the box at 27:57. Everson Goglia also had a golden chance to score, but Skyhawks keeper Felix van der Hagen made an acrobatic arm save to deny the Rams midfielder.

Stonehill began the second half with another quick goal from Maciej Rusiecki on a pass through the 6-yard box from Hayden Xhokaxhiu to regain the lead. The Rams were able to answer back again when Harris set up Goglia in transition, who snuck a low shot past the Skyhawks keeper.

The Skyhawks were able to retake the lead on a scramble for the ball when Killian Doherty slotted one past Synnestvedt at 67:08. Harris had a chance to get the Rams level when he soared a left footer curler just over the bar in the 76th minute. Stonehill were able to stymie the Rams offensively after that to secure the victory.
