How it Happened
Rhode Island and Northeastern played to a scoreless draw in a rain that was a downpour for much of the second half Thursday night.
The action picked up in the second half after the teams combined for just three shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes. The best chance of the first half for either side came in the opening minute. Northeastern's Lula Arcila lined a high shot that URI keeper
Addisen Nicholson was able to tip the ball up off the crossbar.
Northeastern had a strong chance in the 60th minute, but Nicholsen came up with another big save. Foluke Balogun put a line drive on target from point blank range, but Nicholsen was in position to eat the shot up.
In the 69th minute,
Kyra Samalonis nearly got Rhode Island on the board. She found
Kaia Rice in the corner, and Rice sent the ball back across the box to Samalonis, who crashed through the box. Samalonis sent a diving header to the upper corner of the net, but Northeaster keeper Eliza Teplow was just able to tip the shot over the crossbar.
Rhode Island appeared to break through with a goal from Samalonis In the 73rd minute. However, offsides was called to negate the tally, keeping the game scoreless.
