SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Ryan Kaiser and Matthew Lucas finished in the top three and Rhode Island had five of the first 11 finishers as it won the team title at the Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational Saturday morning.

Stonehill's Brendan Wilder won the 5K race in 15:20.1, just .8 of a second ahead of Kaiser. Lucas was tight on the heels of Kaiser with a time of 15:21.1, giving the Rams second and third place.

Stonehill took fourth and fifth place, but Rhode Island's depth showed up. Garrett Hartline (15:31.1), Jeremy Roe (15:40.1) and Jesse Principe (15:41.2) placed eighth, 10th and 11th to help the Rams take the team title.

"It was great to see the guys competing again after a long summer," Rhode Island head coach Trent Baltzell said. "They got hammered in training this week, so it was impressive to get some solid performances and a team win. We showed some depth today and we hope that is an indicator for consistency through the season."

Rhode Island is back in action Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State.
