How it Happened
No. 8/13 Rhode Island had its 11-game CAA Football winning streak snapped as Stony Brook rolled through the Rams 56-24 Saturday afternoon.
The Rams (2-2, 1-1 CAA Football) had no answer for the Stony Brook offense, which piled up 519 total yards. The host Seawolves (2-2, 1-0 CAA Football) got a combined seven rushing touchdowns from running backs CJ Hester (77 yards, 4 touchdowns) and Jeremiah Coney (80 yards, 3 touchdowns). Quarterback Quinn Boyd was 17-of-24 for 198 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. He added 153 yards on the ground.
Rhode Island took a 17-14 lead with 3:49 to go in the first half on a 39-yard field goal by
Josh Hamel. However, Stony Brook scored two touchdowns in the closing minutes of the half - the latter of which came after a
Tyler Budge interception, the lone turnover of the game. The spurt gave the Seawolves a 28-17 lead at the break.
With two more touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, Stony Brook put the game on ice early in the second half.
