How it Happened
Duquesne used an early second-half goal and stout defense to secure the win over the Rams on Saturday evening. Â
Both teams had plenty of scoring chances in the first half. In the 13
th minute,
Luca Krause sent a deflected shot on goal, forcing a full-stretch save from Sam Coss. Just a minute later, Rhody midfielder
Tiago Barriguinha curled a free kick into the box that
Theo Harris got a head to but steered it just wide of the post.
Duquesne got close to opening the scoring when the ball squeaked its way to the feet of Jameson Michel, who put it in the back of the net, but he was ruled offside. Moments later, Rams goalie
William Synnestvedt made his most challenging save of the night, diving full stretch to his right on another shot from Michel to keep things scoreless.
The Dukes got on the board just three and a half minutes into the second half when Tyler Kato was set up with a low cross and put a shot on goal that rattled off the boot of
Luca Mueller and into the net.
Rhody was held without a shot in the second half until the 68
th minute when
Maksim Kalina slid a through ball into the path of Harris, who passed it just wide of the left post. The Rams had a few chances in the final couple of minutes, as they loaded the 18-yard box but were unable to pull a goal out of it.
