2016 (Redshirt Junior)

  • Was URI's Sunday starter, posting a 4.76 ERA and a 6-5 record.
  • Recorded 54 strikeouts over 79.1 innings.
  • Earned his first win of the season, allowing just one run on four hits over five innings against Davidson... Struck out two and walked none (March 13).
  • Struck out seven but was charged with the loss in a 6.1-inning start at Towson (March 21). 
  • Earned his second win of the year at George Mason (March 27)... Allowed just one earned run on six hits over six innings... Struck out four and walked none (March 27).
  • Went seven innings in a no-decision start against VCU, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts (April 10).
  • Allowed three runs (two earned) over seven innings in a win against St. Bonaventure (April 24).
  • Earned his fourth the win against Dayton (May 8), allowing just five hits and two runs over seven innings... Struck out seven, including three straight with bases loaded in the top of the third.
  • Turned in arguably the best outing of his Rhode Island career, registering a career-high 10 strikeouts with zero walks and just four hits over 7.1 innings at La Salle (May 20)... Retired 15 of the first 16 hitters he faced -including 13 in a row from the first through the fifth inning - to get his fifth victory.
  • Delivered a gem in the title game at the Atlantic 10 Championship, tossing seven shutout innings, with just four hits and two walks in Rhody's win over Davidson (May 28). 
  • Made his final appearance of the season in URI's NCAA Regional loss at #6 South Carolina.

2015 (Redshirt Sophomore)

  • Appeared in 11 games for the Rams and made five starts.
  • Finished the season with a 6.35 ERA and a 2-3 record.
  • Recorded 24 strikeouts with just four walks.
  • Fanned five over 6.2 innings in another start against BC (April 28).
  • Tossed two innings of relief in the season opener at No. 2 Florida.
  • Allowed the second-ranked Gators one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Earned the win in his frist start of the season, tossing five shutout innings and allowing just three hits in a victory over Brown (March 17).
  • Was victorious in his next start as well, striking out four over five innings in a win at Northeastern (March 31).
  • Threw three shutout innings, striking out four and allowing zero hits at Boston College (April 14).
  • Recorded three Ks and allowed just one hit in a pair of shutout innings against La Salle (May 15).

2014 (Redshirt Freshman)

  • Posted 2-3 record with a 5.24 ERA.
  • Made 12 appearances, six of which were starts.
  • Was fourth on the team in innings pitched (44.2).
  • Threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief in his first career appearance at Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 16).
  • Picked up his first career win at USF on March 16.
  • Allowed just three hits and one (unearned) run in 4.2 innings of work against Northeastern on April 1.
  • Recorded a season-high six strikeouts and allowed just one earned run in a 6.0-inning start vs. Hartford on April 23.
  • Collected his second win of the season in a relief appearance at St. Bonaventure (May 3).

2013 (Freshman)

  • Did not appear in any games for the Rams.

High School

  • Was a member of the baseball, basketball and football teams at Scarborough High School.
  • Captained his baseball team as a senior.
  • Hit .370 with 64 RBI, 25 stolen bases and eight homeruns for his career.
  • Also posted a career 1.05 ERA with 194 strikeouts and just 18 walks while holding opponents to a .156 average.
  • Helped his team win the Western Maine Championship in 2012.
  • Was a three-time All-Conference pick.
  • Earned two Pitcher of the Year awards (2011-12) and was named Hitter of the Year in 2010.
  • Also was a two-time Underclass All-Star.
  • Won the Dr. John Winkin Award (Maine’s Mr. Baseball award).
  • Won the batting title and was a triple crown winner.
  • Named Scarborough Rotary Club Student of the Quarter.
  • Volunteered in the rebuilding of the ballpark at Old Orchard Beach.

  • Son of Kim and Troy Wessel – who played baseball at Plymouth State and then professionally for the Montreal Expos and Cleveland Indians.
  • Has two younger brothers Sam and Nate.
  • Enjoys fishing, watching movies, listening to music and hanging out with friends.
  • Favorite athlete is Muhammad Ali.
  • Favorite teams are the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Celtics.
  • Majoring in Communication Studies.
