Kevin Heiss

Kevin Heiss joined the Rhode Island staff as a volunteer assistant coach in June of 2021. He completed his second season with the program in 2023.

In his role, Heiss works closely with the infielders and outfielders for the Rams. He assists in instruction for hitting and baserunning, while also pitching for batting practice.

In 2022, Heiss helped coach shortstop Addision Kopack to First Team All-Atlantic 10, All-NEIBA, ABCA All-Northeast and A-10 Academic All-Conference honors. Freshmen Anthony DePino and Eric Genther were both named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team, while DePino earned Freshman All-American and ABCA All-Northeast honors as well. The 2023 season saw the Rams place their starting shortstop onto the All-Atlantic 10 First Team for the second-straight year, as redshirt junior Alex Ramirez received the nod

Heiss began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at McDaniel College in June of 2019. In October of 2021, he was named the interim head coach for the program, a position he held until he came to URI. While at McDaniel, Heiss helped Joey Hublinger and Billy Wheatley earn 2021 First Team All-Centennial Conference honors.

An alum of the program, Heiss played for the Rams from 2016-19, serving as a team captain as a senior. A member of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship team that made the NCAA tournament, Heiss was the team's starting shortstop from 2017-19.

Heiss earned his bachelor's degree in Communications from Rhode Island in 2019 and has a master's degree in Kinesiology from McDaniel.
