2017 (Sophomore)

  • Appeared in 39 games and made 37 starts.
  • Hit .236 on the season with 25 hits, 13 runs scored, 13 RBI and nine stolen bases.
  • Also drew 18 walks and turned in a .359 on-base percentage.
  • Went 2-for-4 with two RBI against Northeastern (March 29).
  • Had a pair of singles, three walks and two runs scored against Richmond (April 16).
  • Recorded a pair of hits with two runs scored against George Washington (April 23).
  • Went a combined 5-for-10 with 3 RBI and one run scored at the Atlantic 10 tournament, in games against George Mason, George Washington and Saint Louis.

2016 (Freshman)

  • Appeared in 25 games and made 18 starts.
  • Finished the year with 11 hits, nine runs scored, four RBI and two stolen bases.
  • Made his first career appearance and singled in his first career at-bat in the season-opener at #14 Florida State (Feb. 19).
  • Went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in URI's win at Winthrop (March 5).
  • Singled and scored a run in back-to-back games at the Campbell Invitational (against Campbell and Davidson).
  • Went 2-for-4 with a walk and one run scored at Towson (March 19).
  • Singled twice, walked and drove in three runs at Brown (April 14).

High School

  • Was a member of the baseball and basketball teams at Archbishop Spalding High School.
  • Captained the baseball team as a senior.
  • Hit .329 for his career, with a .434 on-base percentage.
  • Helped lead his team to the 2014 and 2015 MIAA "A" conference titles.
  • Played for CrabFest Team MD and earned All-America honors in both 2013 and 2014.
  • Also was selected to play on the 2014 Maryland Futures Team.
  • Competed in the Maryland Cup and the Big 26 Baseball Classic.
  • Was named to Perfect Game's All-Tournament Team in 2014.
  • Spent the summer of 2015 playing in the Maryland Collegiate Baseball League and was named to the All-Star team.
  • Was an honor roll student who spent time volunteering at local homeless shelters and area youth organizations.

Personal 

  • Born August 14, 1996.
  • Son of Eileen and Joe Heiss.
  • Has two older siblings - Andrew and Rachel, who played field hockey at St. Mary's College (2011-14).
  • Also has three cousins involved in collegiate athletics - Justin Martinelli (Lacrosse/Delaware), Philip Martinelli (Soccer/Towson) and Brad Martinelli (Soccer/Salisbury).
  • Favorite athlete is Jose Iglesias.
  • Favorite teams are the Orioles, Wizards, Redskins and Capitals.
  • Hobbies include sports, music and food.
  • Chose to attend URI over VMI, Columbia and Tusculum.
  • Selected Rhode Island because of Coach Cerrato and the current players on the team; also loved the university, the campus and the surrounding area.
  • Undecided on a major.
