Jeff Johnson joined the Rhode Island Athletic Department as the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development.
Johnson creates and administers initiatives, programs, and operational processes that provide student-athletes with meaningful opportunities for growth and connections in a wide array of the areas. He will focus on life skills development, leadership formation, career exploration, vocational discovery and community engagement.
A longtime member of the URI community, Johnson first came to the University in 2007. He worked in Student Affairs on External Policy Support. In that role, he has taught leadership development and led diversity engagement. Before coming to Rhode Island, he was a Leadership Development Coach for the Victory Academy in Nashua, N.H.
While at Dean College in Franklin, Mass., Johnson was the Assistant Director of Academic Advising as well as the men’s basketball head coach from 2006-07. He was the men’s basketball head coach at Motlow State Community College from 2002-06, and an assistant coach at Angelo State University from 1998-2002. Johnson spent a year at UMass Dartmouth (2006-07) as an outreach coordinator. While at UMass Dartmouth, he also volunteered to assist the Director of the Frederick Douglass Unity House Multicultural Center.
Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State In 1996. He went on to complete a master’s degree in Health Education/Administration from Northwest Missouri State in 1998 before earning an MBA from Providence College in 2019.
