University of Rhode Island

Adam Griggs

Adam Griggs joined Rhode Island Football ahead of the 2024 season and serves as the Rams' tight ends coach.

Griggs spent the previous four seasons at the University of Rochester, most recently serving as the offensive coordinator/offensive line coach.

During his time with the Yellowjackets, Griggs helped coach UR's offensive linemen to seven All-Liberty League honors, highlighted by three-time Second Team honoree Luke Wilson. His tenure was also highlighted by team success, including a 2,000+ rushing-yard campaign in 2022 that ranked seventh in Rochester's single-season history (2,078 yards).

In his final season with Rochester, Griggs' offense took to the air and tied for the single-season passing attempts record (331) while ranking second in school history with 193 completions. The team also ranks third in the UR record book with a 58.3 completion percentage and recorded 1,980 passing yards, eighth most in program history. Rochester's offensive line also was honored with a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week following a 285-yard, 5-touchdown performance against Alfred State during the 2023 season.

Along with a brief stint working with the Yellowjacket running backs and wide receivers (2020), Griggs' responsibilities also included oversight of the Academic Performance Program, which yielded eight consecutive semesters with a team GPA over 3.0.

Griggs joined the University after spending time as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he worked under Rochester's eventual head coach Chad Martinovich. Prior to coaching at MIT, Griggs had multiple coaching stints at Bentley and Assumption.

He began his coaching career at Assumption in 2006, coaching tight ends for the 2007 season.  He then moved on to Bentley where he was offensive line coach, assistant offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Falcons through 2011.

Griggs then returned to Assumption where he was the Greyhounds offensive coordinator for one season.  He went back to Bentley in June, 2013 and stayed on as special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach until 2017 when Martinovich hired him at MIT.

A three-year starter and four-year letter winner for Bentley, Griggs was a two-time All-Northeast 10 offensive lineman, earning First Team accolades in 2004, when he also earned All-New England regional honors. Griggs also excelled in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2003.

He graduated from Bentley University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Design and Corporate Communication.  Griggs was named the Bentley Student Athlete of the Year in 2004 and 2006.

Griggs received his Masters Degree in Education (Teaching and Curriculum) from Rochester in 2021.
