Tyler Loftus enters his second season at Rhode Island in 2021. He joined the Rhode Island coaching staff as the tight ends coach in February of 2020.

In his first season, Loftus coached Joey Kenny, who earned first-team All-CAA Football honors during the COVID-19 shortened spring season. Kenny made the all-conference team as a fullback/H-Back hybrid.

Loftus came to Rhode Island from Holy Cross, where he spent 2019 as the quarterbacks coach. The Crusaders led the Patriot League in scoring offense, total offense, rushing offense, pass efficiency, third-down conversions, yards per play, yards per completion and yards per pass attempt in his season there. Quarterback Connor Degenhardt was a second-team All-Patriot League selection and a two-time Offensive Player of the Week under Loftus' tutelage.

He spent the 2018 season as the quarterbacks coach at SUNY Morrisville. In his season there, the quarterback finished with the second highest passing efficiency and third highest passing touchdown totals in one season in program history.

Loftus also served as an offensive intern with Wagner College from January through May of 2018. He coached at the Spirit of America Bowl in 2018 and 2019.

During his playing career at Wagner, Loftus played quarterback for former Denver Broncos Offensive Coordinator Richard Scangarello and Rob Calabrese, who is an offensive quality control coach with the Broncos.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Government and Politics in 2018.
