Justin Mazzulla

Justin Mazzulla joined the Rhode Island basketball staff as a graduate assistant in June of 2022.

A Division I player for Vermont (2020-22) and George Washington (2017-19), Mazzulla was a performance coach for Ernie Duncan Hoops in Burlington, Vt. While there, he conducted both and 1-on-1 workouts with youth players to develop their skills, athleticism and understanding of the game. Mazzulla also was a performance coach and head coach for Rise to the Top from 2021-22, where he organized Junior NBA youth basketball leagues and was the head coach of the fifth-grade AAU program.

During his time as a collegiate player, Mazzulla played in 118 games, including 70 for GW and 48 for the Catamounts. Over the course of his career, he averaged 6.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while also dishing out 278 assists. Mazzulla also had 94 steals.

In two seasons at Vermont, Mazzulla started all 48 games he played. In 2021-22, he led Vermont to an America East title and an appearance in the NCAA Championship. In his two seasons with the Catamounts, the team had an overall record of 38-11.

While at George Washington, Mazzulla earned Academic All-Conference honors for the Atlantic 10 in 2018-19. That season, he was the lone GW player to start all 33 games, averaging 8.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while earning Dean’s List honors. A team captain that season, he also served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a group he also represented while at Vermont. With the Catamounts, Mazzulla also was a Student Athlete of Color Representative.  

During his prep career at Bishop Hendricken, Mazzulla guided the Hawks to back-to-back state championships and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Rhode Island as a senior. He led his summer team, the Boston Amateur Basketball Club, to the 16-and-under AAU national title in 2015

In addition to his work on the basketball court, the Johnston, R.I. native has worked as a social media and sales coordinator for Classic Entertainment and Sports and volunteered for the Rhode Island Board of Elections in Cranston, R.I.

Mazzulla earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychological Science from Vermont in 2022. He also minored in both Spanish and Coaching.
