Shawn Pacifico joined the Rhode Island Athletics Sports Medicine Staff in August of 2021 as an associate athletic therapist. He works directly with the men's basketball and golf programs.
A native of Coventry, R.I., Pacifico came to URI from Georgia State University, where he completed a graduate assistantship with the athletics department. From July of 2019 through May of 2021, Pacifico worked closely with Georgia State's football and men's soccer programs handling preventative, rehabilitative and emergent care for student-athletes.
While working toward his bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from the University of New England, Pacifico completed two internships with the URI Sports Medicine staff, doing so in the summers of 2017 and 2018. He also completed internships with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G-League and with Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla.
In addition, Pacifico has done Athletic Training outreach work for Perfect Game in Marietta, Ga., ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., the Soccer Olympic Development Program in Lake Myrtle, Fla. and the Polk State College athletic department, among others.
Pacifico earned his master's degree in Sport Administration from Georgia State in May of 2021.
