St. Joseph's Pulls Away From Rhode Island Early In Second Half

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Na'im Crenshaw and Marvin O'Connor each scored 17 points and St. Joseph's broke open a close game early in the second half to beat Rhode Island 68-53 Tuesday.

Crenshaw led the second-half outburst, hitting three straight 3-pointers in a 53-second span as St. Joseph's (9-7, 4-3 Atlantic 10) outscored Rhode Island 25-8 during the first nine minutes after the break.

Rhode Island (5-14, 2-4), losing for the 12th time in its last 14 games, was paced by Zach Marbury's 15 points. Tip Vinson added 14 and Tavorris Bell 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Neither team played well in the first half, with St. Joseph's hitting only one of 10 3-point shots, while Rhode Island managed to shoot only 30 percent from the field. St. Joseph's led 25-24 at the half.

The game's attendance, 3,438 was the smallest crowd to watch the Rams at the Providence Civic Center in more than 13 years.
