Daniels' Last Minute Heroics Help Knock Off Yale, 68-63

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Dinno Daniels hit a jump shot and made two free throws in the final 16 seconds as Rhode Island broke a seven-game losing streak to beat Yale 68-63 Monday night.

After Yale scored the first two points of the game, Rhode Island went on a 21-1 run over the next 7:33 of play.

Zach Marbury scored 10 points during the run, including back-to-back 3-pointers and two straight lay-ups, the second of which gave Rhode Island a 19-3 lead. Marbury led the Rams with a game-high 24 points.

Yale got within 23-10, with a 7-2 run that was capped by Scott Gaffield's 3-pointer. Rhode Island closed the first half with a 6-2 run to take a 34-17 lead.

Yale got back into the game with a 10-3 run that began at the 13 minute mark of the second half. Gaffield hit two 3-pointers during that run, the second of which made the score 49-42.

Rhode Island held a 63-54 lead with 2:26 left to play. But a 7-1 run, which was capped by two foul shots by Ime Archibong with 42 seconds to play, brought the score to 64-61.

Daniels had 17 points in the game, and his fade away jumper with 12:08 remaining gave the Rams a 66-61 lead.

Neil Yanke led Yale with 18 points and Gaffield scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half.
