Men's Basketball Wins A Thriller Over La Salle, 96-92 in Double-Overtime

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Zach Marbury scored a career-high 38 points to lead Rhode Island to a 96-92 double-overtime win over La Salle Saturday.

Rhode Island (5-15 overall, 1-6 Atlantic 10) needed last second points both at the end of regulation and the first overtime to break its seven-game losing streak.

Tiger Womack hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 70-70 at the end of regulation. Womack scored 14 points in the game and hit four 3-pointers before fouling out in the first overtime.

Despite shooting just 4-of-10 from the foul line in the first overtime, La Salle (7-11, 1-6) was ahead 81-78 with 13 seconds to play. Rhode Island's Howard Smith was able to draw contact on a 3-point attempt with 3.9 seconds on the clock and made all three foul shots to tie the score at 81-81.

A short jump shot by Andrew Wafula to open the second overtime gave Rhode Island its first lead, 83-81, since having a 2-0 advantage in the opening minute of the game. Wafula scored 12 points in the game, all in the second half.

Marbury, who played all 50 minutes, scored seven points during the second overtime and Rhode Island built a lead of 94-89 with 16 seconds to play on two foul shots by Marbury, who made 17-of-20 free throws in the game.

Marbury added four assists and six rebounds to go along with his 38 points.
