Rams Hold Off Late Rally To Beat Fairfield, 59-57

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Brian Woodward had 18 points and six assists as Rhode Island held off a late-game rally and beat Fairfield 59-57 Tuesday night at The Arena at Harbor Yard.

Fairfield (0-3), in its debut at the new arena, trailed 50-38 with 6:39 remaining. But the Stags pulled within one with 8.8 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Dan Galvanoni.

Fairfield then tried to foul Rhode Island (2-1), but couldn't do so until there was only four-tenths of a second left. Woodward then hit a foul shot to provide the winning margin.

Rhode Island's Jason Nickerson blocked Deng Gai's 3-point attempt from the top of the key as time expired.

Dinno Daniels had 14 points and six assists, while Lazare Adingono added 11 points for Rhode Island.

Sam Spann led Fairfield with 16 points. Tyquawn Goode had nine points and six assists for the Stags.
