KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Troy Wiley, playing his first game of the season, tipped in a Lazare Adingono shot with 6.4 seconds to play Saturday to lift Rhode Island to a 67-66 win over Northeastern.

The junior college transfer had 11 points and four rebounds as the Rams (4-6) snapped a four-game losing streak.

Northeastern (2-9) had time for a shot after Wiley's basket, but turned the ball over on its final possession.

There were nine lead changes and four ties in the final 9:31 of the game. Northeastern's Toby Brittian, who grew up near the Rhode Island campus, helped his team erase a five-point deficit in the last two minutes with a pair of baskets, the second of which gave the Huskies a 66-64 lead with 1:11 to play. Brittian finished with seven points and five assists.

Northeastern led 39-35 at halftime after hitting nine 3-pointers in the first half. Rhode Island opened the second half with a 12-1 run to take a 47-40 lead.

Brian Woodward led Rhode Island with a game-high 15 points. Steve Mello added 12. Jean Bain and Aaron Davis each scored 14 for Northeastern.

Wiley was just cleared to play by first-year Rhode Island coach Jim Baron. Although declared eligible by the NCAA, Baron held Wiley out of action until he was satisfied that the junior was making academic progress.
