SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -
Senior captain Yolanda Bogacz equalled her career high with 25 kills and junior setter Juliana Valencia piled up 60 assists Friday night, but Rhode Island dropped the final three games and fell to Texas Tech 3-2 at the Utah Classic.
The Rams (0-2) pulled out the first two games 30-28 and 31-29, but Texas Tech (1-1) rallied to take the next three 30-23, 30-16 and 15-12 in the second meeting ever between the two teams, the first since 1995.
Bogacz equalled the career-high 25 kills she accounted for against Providence on Sept. 19, 2000. Her attack percentage of .320 was second among the Rams to sophomore Michelle Fulton (.333), who had nine kills and only two errors in 21 attempts.
Valencia, a JC transfer from Colombia, added a team-high 14 digs to her 60 assists in just her second appearance for Rhode Island.
The Rams wrap up play at the Utah Classic with a Saturday afternoon match against 25th-ranked Georgia Tech.
