Rams Drop Last 2 Games, Fall to Unbeaten Cal Poly-SLO 3-2

Freshman Brooke Ecklund going up against her hometown school, led Rhode Island with a season-high 16 kills and led all players with five service aces Friday afternoon, but unbeaten Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo rallied to win the final two games for a 3-2 win over the Rams at the Baylor Classic.

The Rams fell to 0-5 on the year after dropping the fourth game 30-25 and the fifth and deciding game 15-12. Three of their losses have come against nationally ranked teams.

Sophomores Amy Kauppila and Minday Chuha topped their career highs in digs for Rhode Island. Kauppila accounted for 15 kills and a team-high 19 digs, two more than her previous best. Chuha came off the bench for 12 digs, topping her previous best by four.

Senior Yolanda Bogacz had 15 kills and 14 digs for the Rams, and junior Juliana Valencia had 57 assists.

For Cal Poly-SLO (4-0), Worthy Lien came through with a game-high 22 kills, Kristen O'Halloran with 23 digs and her sister Carly with 62 assists.
