Men's Basketball Drops One To Buffalo

AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) - Jason Bird led all scorers with 14 points as Buffalo defeated Rhode Island 57-48 on Saturday.

Bird shot 5-of-9 from the field including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. The last of Bird's 3-pointers gave the Bulls (2-2) their largest lead of the game, 35-22, with 13:39 left in the second half. He also hit his first 3-pointer during a 12-1 Buffalo run to open the game.

Leading 51-42 with less than three minutes left in the second half, Buffalo got a critical block from Mark Bortz. After Rhode Island's Dawan Robinson hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead to seven, Buffalo's Turner Battle converted a steal by Davis Lawrence into a 3-pointer with 1:15 left in the game.

The Rams shot 32.1 percent for the game and were 0-for-13 from 3-point range. Robinson led Rhode Island with 11 points. Dustin Hellenga finished with 10.
