KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Brian Woodward scored all of his 14 points in the
second half and Rhode Island held off St. Bonaventure 80-72 on Saturday night.
It was the 499th, and final, game played in the Keaney Gymnasium. The Rams
move into a new arena next season.
Rhode Island (8-19, 4-12 Atlantic 10) used a 9-0 run to take a 45-42 lead
with 15:28 to play, and never trailed again.
Rhode Island's last field goal in the game came on a put-back by Woodward
with 3:48 to play, but the Rams closed the game hitting 14 of 17 shots from the
line.
Patricio Prato, who led the Bonnies with 22 points, opened the second half
with two 3-pointers to give St. Bonaventure (16-11, 8-8) a 42-36 lead with
18:17 to play.
But the Rams scored the next nine points. Dustin Hellenga started the run,
Dinno Daniels hit a 3-pointer and Troy Wiley scored four straight points.
Rhode Island later used a 13-5 run to take its largest lead, 64-53.
St. Bonaventure (16-11, 8-8) pulled within five points on two occasions in
the final minute. Two foul shots by J.R. Bremer with 29.8 seconds to play made
the score 75-70.
Bremer scored 16 points on 2-of-18 shooting. He made all 11 foul shots he
attempted but was 1-of-11 on 3-pointers.
Daniels made 9-of-12 foul shots to lead Rhode Island with 16 points. Wiley
added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
