No. 20 Minnesota Turns Back Rhode Island Volleyball

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The No. 20 Minnesota volleyball team defeated Rhode Island 3-0 by scores of 30-18, 30-28 and 30-22 on Saturday in the Diet Coke Classic.

The Gophers (7-1) have won six straight matches and have won their last 14 consecutive games, including a 3-0 sweep over No. 7 UCLA on Friday.

Rhode Island (1-4) was led by sophomore Kaleena Miller (Mahopac, N.Y.), who had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Junior Michelle Fulton (Dana Point, Calif.) also had 10 kills for the Rams. Junior setter Julia Schlecht (Sundern, Germany) had 23 assists for Rhode Island.

Caisse Busse led Minnesota with 11 kills and had four blocks on the match. Lisa Reinhart had a career-high 13 kills, playing libero for the first two games of the match.

The final session of the Diet Coke Classic will begin with No. 7 UCLA taking on Rhode Island at 5 p.m. The matches live play-by-play and statistics can be found at www.gophersports.com. In the final match of the tournament Minnesota takes on Northern Iowa at 7:30 p.m. in a rematch of last year's second round NCAA Tournament match-up.
