Rams Run Away From Fordham

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Dustin Hellenga had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Rhode Island used a 17-3 run early in the second half to pull away for a 75-63 win over Fordham on Saturday night.

The first half featured 11 lead changes, and Jermaine Anderson's 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Fordham a 34-33 halftime lead.

Lazare Adingono scored eight points on a pair of 3-pointers and two free throws during the 17-3 run that gave Rhode Island (9-4, 1-1 Atlantic 10) a 50-37 lead with 13:51 to play. Jamaal Wise capped the run with a dunk off a behind-the-back pass from Hellenga and a pullup jump shot.

Fordham pulled within 65-60 with 3:33 to play on Athonique Wilson's two free throws, but Hellenga scored the next four points to help Rhode Island stay in control.

Adingono finished with 18 points, Brian Woodward added 11 points and Wise finished with 10.

Fordham (2-11, 1-1) was led by Glenn Batemon with 12 points and Mark Jarrell-Wright with 11.

Rhode Island held a 37-13 advantage in free throw attempts, but made just 21.

With the win, Rhode Island surpassed last year's win total of eight just 13 games into the season.
