Men's Hoops Hammers Yale, 81-69

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Dustin Hellenga scored 19 points and was one of four players in double figures as Rhode Island defeated Yale 81-69 Wednesday night.

Lazare Adingono added 14 points, Dawan Robinson had 13 and Brian Woodward scored 12 for the Rams (8-4), who matched their season total for wins from last season.

T.J. McHugh and Chris Leanza led Yale (5-6) with 16 points each. Edwin Draughan had 13 for the Bulldogs, who have lost four straight.

Yale scored the game's first 12 points, but Rhode Island answered with a 19-6 run to take a 19-18 lead with 7:34 left in the first half.

Yale's last lead of the game was 25-24 with 4:15 remaining in the first half. But the Rams closed the first half with a 14-9 run, capped by a Jamal Wise jumper with four seconds left.

Leanza started the second half with a three-pointer to pull the Bulldogs within one, but they never got any closer.

Rhode Island shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the field and outrebounded Yale 44-31.

Yale was playing its first home game after opening the season with 10 games away from home.
