PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Dawan Robinson scored 21 points and Scott Hazelton tied
his career high with 13 as Rhode Island defeated cold-shooting La Salle 58-54
Wednesday.
Jamaal Wise added 11 points for Rhode Island (14-8, 3-5 Atlantic 10), while
Gary Neal had 18 points for the Explorers (8-12, 3-4), who made only 20 of 65
shots and missed 11 of 20 free throws.
Rhode Island went on a 15-2 run at the start of the second half to take a
41-32 lead, as La Salle made only 1 of 17 shots and missed all eight of its
free throw attempts. The Explorers finally scored seven straight points to
narrow the lead to 41-39 at the 5:34 mark.
Robinson then scored six points during an 8-4 Ram spurt for a 47-41 edge,
and after Steve Smith made a jumper for La Salle with 3:08 remaining, Robinson
led a 7-2 run to seal the victory.
The Rams, who had lost five of their last six, played without second-leading
scorer Brian Woodward, sidelined with a sprained ankle.
