The University of Rhode Island women's volleyball team held off a strong push from in-state rival Brown in a 3-1 victory Tuesday night at the Pizzitola Center.
The Rams (5-6) cruised to victory in the first game by a 30-14 score and won the second game 30-25, but Brown downed Rhode Island 30-13 to force a fourth game. In the fourth game the Bears (1-6) led by as many as seven points, but Rhody came back to post a 30-26 win.
Senior Kaleena Miller (Mahopac, N.Y.) with a double-double of 17 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore Rachel Bello (Wyckoff, N.J.) recorded 15 kills and senior Beatriz Arana (Cali, Colombia) also reached double figures with 14 kills.
Freshman setter Chelsea Wisz (Naperville, Ill.), the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, posted her first career double-double with 44 assists and a career-high 15 digs to go with four service aces. Junior Marie Rolfe (Toronto, Ontario) led the Rams with 20 digs.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Fordham at 4 p.m. in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams at Keaney Gymnasium.
