Rhode Island Falls To Xavier, 77-63

CINCINNATI (AP) - Josh Duncan and Justin Doellman scored 18 points apiece Saturday night to lead Xavier to a 77-63 win over Rhode Island in a tuneup for its annual meeting with crosstown rival Cincinnati.

Justin Cage and Stanley Burrell each added 11 points for the Musketeers (11-8, 5-4 Atlantic 10).

The Rams (4-15, 2-6) dropped their fourth straight and lost for the 10th time in 12 games. Scott Hazelton had 25 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Will Daniels added 16 points and Terrence Mack had 10.

Xavier led 35-27 at halftime and took its largest lead at 61-41 with 9:45 remaining. The Rams cut the deficit to eight, but Doellman dunked to start a 10-4 run that helped the Musketeers pull away.

Xavier pulled ahead at the end of the first half with a 10-1 surge. Burrell connected on a 3-pointer, Cage dunked off an offensive rebound and then Duncan finished the surge with a jumper and a 3.

Xavier plays at Cincinnati on Thursday night. The Musketeers trail the series against their top rival 45-26, but have won the last two and six of eight.
