KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island freshman outside hitter Jillian Bekke totaled 12 kills and 15 digs, but it was Brown holding down the Rams, 3-1 (30-21, 26-30, 30-25, 30-16), in women's volleyball action this evening in Keaney Gymnsasium.
Brown (1-7) picked up its first win of the season on the heels of 12 kills apiece from senior outside hitter Lauren Gibbs and junior outside hitter Shawn Tulac, while junior outside hitter Rikki Baldwin and sophomore middle blocker Julie Mandolini-Trummel chipped in with 11 kills each.
Rhode Island (5-8) freshman Leslie Wiekamp added 15 digs, while freshman setter Joanna Mitchell was credited with 38 assists and 12 kills.
URI returns to action, Saturday (Sept. 24), opening the Atlantic 10 portion of its schedule with a match at Fordham at 2:00 p.m. before kicking off a six-match homestand against Xavier on Friday (Sept. 30) at 7:00 p.m.
