PROVIDENCE, R.I. Six Rams totaled five or more kills with sophomore outside hitter Jillian Bekke leading the way with her nine kills and two solo blocks as women's volleyball swept the Friars 3-0 (30-16, 30-26, 30-27) last night in Providence.
Seniors Inga Schlecht, Rachel Bello and junior Lauren Shea contributed with eight kills each. Freshman Caitlyn Welsh added six kills along with nine digs and sophomore Chinny Okpara put down five kills.
The Rams started strong in the first game leading Providence at one point 20-6 before winning 30-16. Late in the second game, the Rams held a slim 23-21 lead before middle blocker Lauren Shea rattled off three kills in the next seven points to seal the victory in that game. With the score tied at 24 in the third game, Rhode Island tallied three kills in a row to get a 27-24 lead and did not look back as Lauren Shea scored the last point with her eighth kill of the night to complete the three game sweep of in-state rival Providence College.
