Rams Lose Close Match To Billikens

SAINT LOUIS, MO.  Senior setter Lindsay St. John recorded a double -double with 27 assists and 12 digs while sophomore outside hitter Jillian Bekke led the team with 14 kills as the Rams lost, 3-2 (13-30, 30-26, 18-30, 30-27, 8-15), almost upsetting Saint Louis which is tied for second place in the Atlantic 10.

Senior Rachel Bello had 11 kills and just missed a second straight double-double with nine digs while classmate Ivy Zuidhof contributed by putting down 11 kills of her own. Freshman middle blocker Caitlyn Welsh had nine kills as did sophomore outside hitter Chinny Okpara who also had 14 digs. Sophomore libero Leslie Wiekamp was credited with 17 digs which was tied for the match-high.

The Rams won a close fourth game, 30-27, to push the match a fifth and final game. The score was tied early at 5-5, but it was Saint Louis that went on a 10-3 scoring run to end the upset scare given by the Rams.

Rhode Island now comes home to finish the regular season. The Rams welcome Quinnipiac to Keaney Gymnasium on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and then they will take on Fordham Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., where the Rams will honor seniors Rachel Bello, Inga Schlecht, Lindsay St. John and Ivy Zuidhof.
