Rams Finish Crusader Classic With A Win Over Army

WORCESTER, Mass. Rhode Island senior Inga Schlecht and freshman Caitlyn Welsh were named to All-Tournament Team at the Holy Cross Crusader Classic after the Rams defeated Army 3-1 (30-28, 32-34, 33-31,30-28) to wrap up their weekend with a record of 2-1.

Schlecht once again led the team in kills with 23. She finished the weekend with a total of 51 kills, 20 digs, and seven service aces. Welsh finished the tournament with nine blocks, including five solo, in the final match against Army.

Senior opposite Rachel Bello was the second-leading hitter with 17 kills along with seven digs versus Army.

Sophomore libero Leslie Wiekamp had 16 digs in the final match giving her a total of 55 digs for the tournament. Sophomore defensive specialist Peggy Doino tallied 11 digs and so did junior setter Kaira Kachadurian who also had 64 assists.

The next match for the Rams will be against Towson on Friday, September 15th at 11:00 a.m in Kingston. This will be the first of three matches on the weekend as URI hosts the Ram Classic.
