PHILADELPHIA, Pa.  Senior outside hitter Rachel Bello tallied a match-high 10 kills and freshman middle blocker Caitlyn Welsh put down seven kills along with seven digs as the Rams defeated La Salle 3-0 (30-23, 30-28, 30-22), last night, in their first Atlantic 10 showdown of the season.

Senior Inga Schlecht contributed with seven kills, 15 digs, and two service aces. Fresh off her All-Tournament Team selection in the Yale Invitational, sophomore Leslie Wiekamp totaled 13 digs.

Rhode Island hit for a percentage for .225 compared to La Salle's percentage of .040. At the end of the second game, the score was tied at 28 until Lauren Shea and Inga Schlecht put down two kills in a row to seal the victory. During the third game, the score was tied at 10 but then the Rams were able to pull away posting leads of 18-12, then 26-13, and finally finished the game and and completed the sweep of La Salle with a 30-22 victory.

The Rams are now 1-0 in Atlantic 10 matches and square off next against A-10 opponent Temple, tonight in Philadelphia at 4:00 p.m.
