KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Brown University Wednesday night in non-conference action at Keaney Gymnasium. The loss evens the Rams record at 8-8.
The Bears (2-8) captured game one 30-21, game two 30-24, and game three 30-26. Brown recorded a .283 hitting percentage for the match.
Freshman Kayla Newberg (Deer Park, Wash.) led the Rams with 11 kills and three blocks (one solo). Sophomore Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) tallied 10 kills and eight digs, and junior Chinny Okpara (Apple Valley, CA) sparked URI off the bench with seven kills and 11 digs.
Julie Mandolini-Trummel posted a match-high 14 kills for the Bears while Brianna Williamson had 13 kills and Megan Toman posted 10.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host No. 16 Dayton at Keaney Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
