MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -- Jessica Babice tallied her second goal of the season as Rhode Island (1-1-1) dropped a 3-1 decision at No. 18 West Virginia tonight.

West Virginia's Ashley Banks put the Mountaineers on the scoreboard first, connecting on a penalty kick in the 39th minute.

WVU added a second goal in the 54th minute, before Babice found the back of the net off a Thorunn Jonsdottir entry into the box, off a free kick.

The Mountaineers added a late goal - in the 80th minute - to make the final score, 3-1.

"Today's game was an outstanding group effort that really proves that we can play with any team in the country." head coach Zac Shaw said. "We were consistently dangerous in attack, but were unlucky not to score more than the one goal we got."

For the game, Rhode Island was outshot, 28-8, while committing just two fouls to West Virginia's eight. The Mountaineers had eight corner kicks, while URI had two.

"It is always hard to play away and a tough penalty kick call in the first half was hard to overcome." Shaw added. "I think a draw would have been a fair result, the 3-1 final really flattered West Virginia in a game that I feel was really ours to win."

Jackie Fede made 10 saves in goal for URI.

The Rams travel to Syracuse on Sunday, Sept. 9 to take on the Orange. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
