BOSTON, Mass. -- Rhode Island's women's cross country team took 27th place overall at the 2008 New England Intercollegiate Cross Country championship, held at Boston's Franklin Park.
The Rams totaled 743 points in the 45-team field. Boston College won the team title, compiling 38 points.
Mary Najarian made her season debut and led URI with her 82nd place finish. She covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 19:17. Brittany Pelsue was the Rams' second finisher, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:31.
Kat Allard (20:10) and Emily Zaccardi (20:20) finished 167th and 184th, respectively, while Caitrin Demchko rounded out the Rhode Island scorers, in 201st place (20:35).
Alyssa Namey (217th place, 20:49) and Amy Krajewski (218th place, 20:49) rounded out the Rhode Island finishers. BU's Andrea Walkonen won the meet in a time of 17:19.
Rhody returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the UAlbany Invitational in Albany, N.Y.
