Results

Hopkinton, N.H. - Rhode Island finished sixth out of 25 teams at the 2025 New England ICAAA Championship Friday afternoon. Four Rams finished in the top 50 of the 281-runner field, and a late surge by Linsey Arends helped URI edge Holy Cross by one point for sixth place.

The 5K course was held on the Hopkinton Fairgrounds. Providence had three runners in the top eight, including individual champion Niamh O'Mahony, whose time of 17:08.18 was more than 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. The Friars won the team title with 67 points, followed by Maine (82), New Hampshire (109), Sacred Heart (146), Merrimack (188) and Rhode Island (200).

The Rams were led once again by Lily Saul, who placed 10th overall with a time of 17:46.90. Saul got off to a strong start and was among the first five runners to reach the one-mile mark of the course. The Providence duo of O'Mahony and Emily Bush were the first two to reach the mark, followed by Siena Brunetti of Holy Cross, Grace Sousa of Sacred Heart and Saul.

Alison Pankowicz (40th, 18:38.47); Jordan Hadfield (43rd, 18:42.93) and Hailey LaRosa (50th, 18:52.28) were all bunched close together for Rhody.

Arends was Rhode Island's fifth point scorer, placing 62nd overall with a time of 19:06.33. She had a strong second half of the race. Arends was in 105th place at the 1-mile mark, but she improved by 43 spots by the finish line. She jumped 27 spots by the 2-mile mark, and then another 16 places by the finish line. Her late push allowed the Rams to hold off Holy Cross by one point in the team standings.

Also competing for Rhode Island were Kelsey Wolff (64th place); Madeline Till (85th place); Gwen McCloughan (96th place); Keaney Bayha (98th place) and Zoe Catrambone (119th place).
