KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island volleyball team (9-11 overall; 1-5 Atlantic 10) dropped its second straight conference match, losing to Xavier, 3-1.
Offensively, two URI players reached double-figures in kills. Junior Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) paced the squad with 13 terminations. Welsh has now registered 10-or-more kills in eight straight matches.
Freshman Stacey Yohannes (Penfield, N.Y.) also chipped in with 12 kills. Yohannes' 12 terminations were the most she has registered since URI's match with Seton Hall (Sept. 13).
Defensively, senior Peggy Doino (Deer Park, N.Y.) led the way with a match-high 18 digs.
Xavier opened the match by winning the first two sets (25-19 game one; 25-20 game two), but the Rams responded with a 25-23 triumph in the third frame. XU would then close out the match in the fourth set with a 25-19 win.
Rhode Island returns to action on Oct. 24 as it heads to Charlotte. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
