ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University of Rhode Island women's cross country team placed 11th overall in the Bobbi Palma-women's championship race at the 42nd Annual UAlbany Cross Country Invitational.
The Rams totaled 244 points overall as a team. Brown University took the team title, with 19 points. There were 24 teams in the field.
Leading the way for URI was sophomore Mary Najarian. The N. Kingstown, R.I. native covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 18:48.6. She was 34th overall in the field of 196.
Brittany Pelsue was the second Rhody runner to finish the race, covering the 5k course in a time of 18:57.6 - good for 47th place overall. Caitrin Demchko had her finest race of the season, crossing the line in 50th place overall, in 18:59.4.
Kat Allard (52nd place, 19:00.0) and Emily Zaccardi (81st place, 19:34.1) rounded out the URI scorers. The Rams had all five scorers within 47 seconds of each other.
Alyssa Namey (109th place, 20:01.1) and Amy Krajewski (120th place, 20:26.2) rounded out the Rhody finishers. Brown's Kelsey Ramsey took first place honors, in a time of 17:42.1.
URI's next race is the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, held on Nov. 1 at Charlotte.
