KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island volleyball team (12-12 overall; 4-6 Atlantic 10) suffered a 3-0 setback to Dayton at home on Sunday.
URI's 3-0 setback snapped its season-high three-match winning streak. The Rams' loss to the Flyers also marked the second time this season URI has lost to UD. The Rams lost to the Flyers 3-2 on the road back on (Oct. 17).
Sophomore Kayla Newberg (Deer Park, Wash.) led the team offensively with nine kills. In two matches this weekend, Newberg totaled 20 kills. Defensively for the Rams, senior Peggy Doino (Deer Park, N.Y.) led the way with a team-high 10 digs.
Dayton opened the match with a 25-18 victory in the first set. As a team, the Rams were outhit .310-.161 in the frame.
Dayton would go on to take a 2-0 lead following a 29-27 triumph in the second set. Sophomore Lauren McIntosh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the way with four kills in the frame.
The Flyers would then close out the match in the third set as they defeated the Rams 25-16. UD held the Rams to an attack percentage of just .029 in the final frame.
Rhode Island returns to action on Friday as it heads to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on Duquesne at 7 p.m.
