Utah Valley Upends Rams, 11-5

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - Stacey Stanovich drove in a pair of runs and Darci Borden (Elma, Wash.) hit a solo home run in an 11-5 loss to Utah Valley Saturday morning at the Red Desert Classic in Utah.

Trailing 3-0 entering the third, the Rams picked up a pair of unearned runs as freshman Amanda Sbei (Collegeville, Pa.) and Borden scored on a throwing error and a passed ball, respectivly.

After Utah Valley answered back with a single run in the bottom half of the inning to stretch their lead to 4-2, URI plated three in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. Borden opened the scoring with her second home run of the season to cut the deficit to 4-3. Later in the inning, junior Alyse Fram (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored on a wild pitch and Stanovich (Northbridge, Mass.) doubled home junior Stefani Poedubicky (Wrightstown, N.J.).

The lead didn't last long. Utah Valley scored three in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead at 7-4 and added four runs in the sixth to cap the scpring at 11-4.

Sophomore MaryBeth Ball (Clinton, Mass.) started for the Rams and allowed four hits and three earned runs in 2.2 IP before being relieved by Stanovich.
