Rhody Defeated in Second Game of Doubleheader at Troy, 6-1

TROY, Ala. - Freshman Kenny Burns (Shelton, Conn.) recorded his first collegiate hit and scored the Rams' lone run in the Rhode Island baseball team's 6-1 loss to Troy in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Riddle-Pace Field in Troy, Ala. The loss drops Rhody to 0-3 while the Trojans improve to 3-0.

Steven Felix put Troy ahead in the bottom of the second inning, crossing the plate on a wild pitch after drawing the lead-off walk.

Rhody evened the score the following inning when Burns led off with a double to right center, stole third and tied things up on senior Mike O'Malley's (Nashua, N.H.) sac-fly to right field.

Troy went back on top with a three-run fourth inning and added two more in the bottom of the sixth for the 6-1 win.

Sophomore Eric Smith (Milford, Conn.) threw 5.1 innings for the Rams, giving up eight hits and six runs with two strikeouts and six walks. Classmate Mark Fraser (Nashua, N.H.) took over and struck out Lance Miller and Beau Brooks to get the Rams out of the sixth inning and went on to pitch a total of 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and just one hit.

The Rams are back in action on Sunday morning when they close out their four-game series at Troy at 11 a.m. Eastern time.
