KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Sophomore Darci Borden (Elma, Wash.) launched a three-run home run in University of Rhode Island softball team's 15-6 loss to Wagner University Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Osceola Complex at the Rebel Spring Games.
Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the first, the Rams (1-11) scored twice to take a 2-1 lead on RBI singles by sophomore Leah DiBussolo (East Norriton, Pa.) and junior Stefani Poedubicky (Wrightstown, N.J.).
The Seahawks (2-5) answered back with four runs in the second and five in the third to grab a 10-2 lead. Katie Stevens singled in a pair of runs to spark Wagner's second-inning rally and Amy Iwicki and Victoria Batistelli each drove in two runs in the third. They tacked on another run in the fourth on an RBI single by Emily Pierce to make it 11-2 through 3.5 innings of play.
After Poedubicky scored on a fielding error in the fourth, Borden's three-run jack over the left field wall brought URI to within five runs at 11-6. However, Wagner put up a `2' in its half of the fifth and seventh innings to pull away.
Senior Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) started for the Rams and allowed nine hits and nine runs (six earned) in 2.1 innings of work. She walked two and struck out one to fall to 1-7 on the season. Danielle Wagoner hurled a complete game for the Seahawks, allowing four hits and six runs (four earned) with three walks and three strikeouts.
The Rams were slated to play Rider at 5 p.m. Saturday evening.
