March 16, 2008

Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Sophomore Darci Borden (Elma, Wash.) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the University of Rhode Island softball team to a 4-3 win over Columbia University Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Rebel Spring Games.

Tied at three entering the bottom of the seventh, Borden drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a single by sophomore Jackie Kampmeier (East Norriton, Pa.). Both runners moved up one base on a wild pitch, and after a walk to sophomore Melissa Wilson (Longview, Wash.) loaded the bases, Borden scored the winning run on a fielders choice by classmate Leah DiBussolo (East Norriton, Pa.).

After Kampmeier scored on a single by DiBussolo in the first to give URI a 1-0 lead, Columbia scored three times in the fourth to go in front 3-1. Jackie Ecker brought home the first Lions run with a single to left, and two batters later, Keli Leong doubled to center to plate two runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Rams tied the score in the fifth on a two-run single by DiBussolo.

Senior Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) picked up the win, allowing nine hits and three runs while striking out four. Aimee Kemp took the loss for Columbia, giving up seven hits and four runs while walking six in 6.1 IP.

The Rams - who were slated to face Wisconsin-Green Bay Sunday morning, the results of which were unavailable at press time - face Iona at 1 p.m. and Lafayette at 3 p.m. on Monday.
